I ordered a HP dv7 quad ed w/8gb mem. Now Intel has a chip issue & they are working to resolve it. HP is suggesting the I5 chip as the next best to the I7 quad chip. With the I5 chip the way i configured my laptop it's almost as much as the I7 with no near the componets. HP doesn't know when the chip issue will be resolved. Is the I7 chip that much better than the I5? I have a $300 off coupon HP will honor in the future so that's one reason the prices are close. The price for the system i ordered is just over $1,000.00 before taxes. Should i wait for the chip issue to be resolved. The rest of your machine is performance oriented, a shame to use the middle of the road i5 for something your likely to keep for 5-10 years. They are working on the Sandy Bridge fix, it's just going to take a few months, question is if you get the new i7 will it have the older defective version or the newer one?

I am quite lost here. I am deciding either over a HP Pavillion or a Dell Studio XPS. 1st has a better video card. 2nd has a better CPU Personally, I'd go for the 2nd. Sandy Bridge quads are excellent, and the 6570m Radeon isn't THAT much under the mobile 5850
